Chris Riegg grew up in West Allis, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee with a strong industrial background. Over the course of his career as an investment banker and strategic advisor, he has focused on guiding business owners and leadership teams through a wide range of financial and operational decisions. He has worked with more than 200 ownership groups and executive teams, helping them evaluate strategic and financial options such as mergers and acquisitions, refinancing, restructuring, recapitalization, and securing both debt and private equity funding.
With more than three decades of experience in financial services, Chris has worked across a diverse mix of industries, including manufacturing, service, distribution, and technology. He has supported clients in addressing complex challenges tied to growth, acquisitions, business development, financing, ownership transitions, and organizational structure. His experience also includes helping companies navigate difficult or distressed situations.
Chris founded Promontory Strategy Group (PSG) to provide a more focused, hands-on advisory experience for a select group of business owners and leadership teams. In addition, he co-leads Promontory Point Capital (PPC), an investment banking firm he established in 2004 that specializes in privately held businesses. Earlier in his career, he held senior roles at L. William Teweles & Co., U.S. Bank Capital Markets, and J.P. Morgan Chase. His transaction experience spans work with buyers, sellers, banks, private equity groups, mezzanine lenders, and other institutional investors.
He is also a frequent speaker, presenting to business owners, executive teams, and professional advisors such as attorneys, accountants, and lenders. Chris regularly participates in executive-level forums and shares insights on topics like pre-transaction planning, achieving liquidity and ownership transition goals, growth through acquisitions, and financing strategies.
Chris earned a Master’s degree in Corporate Finance from Marquette University and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He holds both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and a CPA license in Wisconsin. Outside of his professional work, he is involved in the community through organizations such as the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and Stars and Stripes Honor Flight of Wisconsin. He and his wife, Kim, have been married for over 33 years and have two adult children who live in the Milwaukee area.
